Time For a New Fireplace

This past week, the living room got trimmed out, mud and taped, as well as primed and painted.

Brad tore the old fireplace surround out, which made me sad, but Brad promised me it wasn't an original old piece and that it wasn't in very good shape. He and the homeowner designed a brand new fireplace surround that will compliment a mirror they are going to hang above the fireplace.  Marble will cover the base and the sides of the existing brick.

Thanks for checking in! See you next week.

A Beauty in Birmingham

These homeowners originally wanted only a few things done to make their beautiful Birmingham home a little homier. This home is filled with charm and character, something you don't see in new construction. Brad's scope of work is getting larger by the day.

The homeowner wanted this wall of shelving removed. Brad will build something to better meet their needs.
The rear sliding glass doors that look out into the back yard.
The family room, where the shelves used to be.
The family room looking out towards the back of the house. The carpet has been torn out and a wood floor will be laid.
Front wall of the family room with the phone booth in the corner.
A close up of the phone booth.  I think it's quite cool, although I'm not sure about the toilet paper on the seat.
The living room needs drywall on the ceiling and walls and the cove needs to be plastered.

Love the detail in the old fireplace. Brad has some great ideas for this.

Another view of the living room.

I love this house, there are beautiful views from every window.  This will be a gem when it's finished.

And the Color IS...

"SEAL"  as in the "gray" animal.  I guess its more exciting than just some shade of gray.  I am very happy with the color.  I think it looks good with the stone work. Let us know what  you think.

It won't be long before we can install these pavers.

Notice, the dumpster is gone!

We've had a couple of tough weeks, battling the flu, juggling other jobs as well as helping our daughter and future son in law with their home renovation in Hazel Park.

RC Lomasney continues to finish up the duct work at Spencer and we will begin a project in Birmingham on Monday, our 30th wedding anniversary. I'd say that's something to celebrate!  Have a great weekend, see you next week. Thanks for looking in.

Time For Some Stone and Siding

Brad added his favorite River Rock stone around the base of the house.  I was trying to talk him into a ledge stone but I think this looks fantastic with the trees and the style of the home.

The Hardie plank siding is up.  I will reveal the color choice in next week's blog.  Here's a hint, we went dark.  Next week, we will take a look at some of the bones and what's going on inside. Thanks for looking in!

Back to Spencer...Finally

What can I say, we've had issues.  We requested gas service back in September. After dozens of unanswered calls, we finally just recently received service. It feels great to finally have heat, thanks to R.C. Lomasney Heating and Cooling.

We have had many things that have pulled us from our project.  We have quite a few side jobs as well as helping our daughter and future son in law with their new home.  The outside is pretty much done, although you don't see that in these photos. I will post more next week. We are anxious to get going on the inside.  Now that we have heat, that will be an easier task. See you next week.
